Ultimate TRX-6 Truck Guide
We take a 6X6 deep-dive with the Mercedes-Benz G 63 AMG 6X6 and Ultimate RC Hauler
Traxxas dominates the trail-trucking scene with the hugely popular TRX-4® lineup, and wild TRX-6® pushes performance and excitement even further over the top with its terrain-grabbing 6X6 configuration and ultra-realistic TRX-6 Mercedes-Benz® G 63 AMG 6x6 styling. The latest addition to the TRX family also rolls out on six wheels with an even more massive footprint than the big Mercedes-Benz and can even carry other cars from your Traxxas stable along for the ride! The TRX-6 Ultimate RC Hauler is like nothing else on the trail and draws a crowd wherever it goes. We know you want to see how it compares with the G 63 AMG, so let’s get into it!
How Big Are They?
As the graphic below shows, both 6X6s are impressively large machines. At over two feet long, the Mercedes is nearly three inches longer than a TRX-4 model. The Ultimate Hauler larger still, just shy of a full foot longer than the Mercedes-Benz (11.9 in. / 302 mm to be exact). The G 63 and Hauler have the same track width of 9.8 in. (249 mm), as they’re on identical portal axles. The spacing between the intermediate and rear axles is also the same for both 6X6s. The Hauler simply has a longer stretch between the front axle and the rear pair. And as you can see, there’s plenty of car-carrying room on the Hauler. That Factory Five coupe looks very comfortable up there.

Shared 6X6 Features
The Mercedes-Benz G 63 and Ultimate Hauler share all the important features that make the Traxxas TRX series the most popular and best-performing trucks on the trail. That includes T-Lock remote-locking differentials, High/Low transmission, metal-gear servo, aluminum GTS shocks, and more. Here’s a recap of what you get with both 6X6 models:
Portal Axles
All TRX-series trail trucks are equipped with portal axles for unbeatable off-road capability. The portal design lifts the differential housing much higher than a conventional solid axle (shown in red in the illustration), giving TRX trucks much greater ground clearance. The rugged metal portal gears also increase the axle’s total gear reduction, which virtually eliminates the “torque twist” effect that conventional axles suffer under load.

Remote Operated High/Low Transmission
Both TRX-6 trucks can be shifted between High and Low ranges on the fly, right from the transmitter. Use Low range for maximum torque when the mission is crawling and climbing, then shift into High for greater speed on less challenging terrain.

T-Lock Remote Locking Differentials
Both 6X6 models allow you to lock and unlock the differentials right from the transmitter to instantly tailor traction and power delivery to the terrain at hand. With six Canyon RT tires digging in, you can leave the differentials unlocked for maximum drivetrain efficiency and best handling and still get through nearly any off-road challenge. When the going truly gets tough, you can lock the front diff with a flip of the TQi transmitter’s T-Lock switch. If that doesn’t do the trick, you can lock all three differentials for off-the-charts traction that makes both 6X6s virtually unstoppable.

One-Piece Steel frame Rails
Both 6X6 models each get unique chassis rails, but feature the same construction. Each rail is a single length of C-channel steel—not a multi-piece “conversion” of a shorter rail for a 4X4 truck. The one-piece rails assure the Mercedes and Hauler chassis are resilient and durable to stay straight and true under hard use while allowing traction-enhancing torsional flexibility without any connection-point weaknesses that multi-piece rails would have.

Aluminum GTS Shocks & Heavy-Duty Steel Suspension Links
All Traxxas TRX models deliver a smooth, controlled ride via aluminum-body GTS shocks. The scale-diameter, oil-filled dampers look fantastic and feature threaded bodies that make it easy to adjust ride height without tools or clips. The suspension links, steering links, and Panhard bar are all heavy-duty steel and equipped with thickly molded rod ends to precisely maintain axle position and eliminate unwanted flex while allowing smooth articulation in rough terrain.

Metal-Gear 2075X High Torque Waterproof Servo
The 2075X servo is standard equipment on most TRX-series trucks and features premium specs to meet the challenges of technical terrain. The robust, all-metal geartrain withstands the extreme loads required to maneuver high-grip tires at low speeds or while stopped, so you can choose the perfect line. Steering commands are delivered with 125 oz-in of tire-pulling torque, and waterproof construction keeps your TRX-6 on course even in mud and snow.

6X6 Tires & Wheels
Both 6X6s roll out on the latest Canyon RT rubber that debuted with the Mercedes-Benz G 63. The soft-compound low-profile rubber perfectly complements the 2.2″ rim for a scale appearance and extreme off-road grip. The G 63 wears replica wheels with red-line detailing and logo’d center caps, while the Hauler gets new black-chrome wheels with integrated nut covers and front- and rear-specific designs for maximum realism. The Canyon RT tires are also a great option for TRX-4 models. Learn more about installing them on your TRX-4 here.

Factory-Installed LED Lighting
The Mercedes-Benz G 63 AMG and Ultimate Hauler are both fully LED-equipped for realistic fun after dark. The lighting is bright and completely functional to help you better see where your 6X6 is going and illuminate the trail ahead. Headlights, taillights, and side markers are all lit and look incredible in action.

Telemetry Ready with TQi
The Traxxas TQi transmitter and TSM 5-channel receiver are standard with both TRX-6 trucks and all TRX models except for the TRX-4 Sport. The TQi transmitter accepts the optional Traxxas Link Wireless Module to enable the full versatility and telemetry capability that’s built into the radio system. When combined with your iOS or Android smart device and the free Traxxas Link app, you can adjust your transmitter’s steering and throttle settings, manage up to 30 vehicles in Model Memory, and view telemetry data for speed, RPM, temperature, and voltage with optional sensors. You even can outfit the telemetry dashboard with inclinometers—the required sensors are already built into the receiver. Learn more about Traxxas Link.

Adding a Winch to Your 6X6
The Pro Scale Winch is one of the hottest accessories for TRX models, and both TRX-6s can be outfitted with this powerful, functional accessory. The Hauler’s bed is winch-ready so you can use its ten pounds of pulling power to realistically drag cars or cargo into place. For the Mercedes-Benz G 500 and G 63, the winch mounts up front on an accessory front bumper so you can pull other rigs out of trouble. You can also use the winch to pull yourself out of trouble, but when you’re driving a TRX-6, you’re not usually the one who gets stuck.
What You Need to Complete Your TRX-6
Both TRX-6 models arrive fully assembled and ready to run. All you need to add is four AA batteries for the transmitter, a Traxxas Power Cell NiMH or LiPo battery, and charger. Traxxas makes it extra-easy to get the right stuff with a complete listing of all the TRX-6 compatible batteries and chargers. Batteries and chargers are available separately, or you can get them together as a convenient Completer Pack with an EZ-Peak® Plus iD® charger and 2-cell or 3-cell Power Cell LiPo battery. Traxxas iD technology simplifies charging by automatically choosing the correct settings for any Traxxas iD battery you select. The iD system recogizes the battery chemistry, capacity, and cell count so you get a perfect charge every time. Traxxas iD tech is the easier, faster, and safer way to get your TRX-6 or any Traxxas model juiced up and into action.
