Traxxas 4-Tec Model Guide
Take a closer look at the 4-Tec 2.0 and 3.0 models
As The Fastest Name in Radio Control®, it’s no surprise that Traxxas builds the highest-performance Ready-to-Race® on-road machines. That certainly includes the 100+ mph XO-1, but the real star of the Traxxas road show is the 4-Tec lineup. No other street cars offer as much versatility, value, and fun—and performance. The 4-Tec 2.0 and 3.0 models all offer outstanding all-wheel-drive handling and legendary Traxxas Tough™ durability combined with fully licensed bodies that replicate some of the most exciting full-size vehicles on the road today. You can even get the 4-Tec without a body, ready to accept a wide range of aftermarket designs. No matter which 4-Tec you choose, you’ll experience thrilling street speed. Titan-powered 4-Tec models are equipped for 30+ mph, and when you go brushless with the Velineon® power system, 70+ mph is just a trigger-pull away. Let’s take a closer look at the 4-Tec 2.0 and 3.0 models and all they have to offer.
4-Tec Sizes
Traxxas 4-Tec models are currently available in six styles: Ford GT, Ford Mustang GT, Chevrolet Corvette Stingray, Toyota GR Supra GT4, and two Factory Five Hot Rod styles: ’35 Truck and ’33 Coupe. The Fords are both on the 2.0 chassis, which accepts standard 190 mm and 200 mm bodies. The rest of the 4-Tec lineup is on the 3.0 chassis, which features a longer wheelbase and larger-diameter tires with greater offsets that increase the cars’ width.
4-Tec Features
Let’s take a quick look at just a few of the important features you get with all 4-Tec 2.0 and 3.0 models. They’re loaded! For an in-depth comparison of all the models’ equipment and specs, we’ve got a big chart for you at the end of the article.
Brushless-Ready All Wheel Drive
All 4-Tec models are Brushless Ready so you can upgrade to Velineon brushless horsepower with no mods required. Metal ring and pinion gears and driveshafts equip the AWD system for extreme strength and flex-free power delivery. The sealed shaft-drive system keeps out dirt and pebbles with rotating shafts that spin on sealed bearings for powerful acceleration and precise throttle response.

Aerodynamic Modular Chassis
4-Tec’s smooth underside reduces drag for maximum speed and won’t snag on cracks or edges in pavement. When it’s time for maintenance, the modular design makes it easy to access all the essential components.

Heavy Duty Sealed Differentials
All 4-Tec models are equipped with the same bevel-gear differentials as the hard-hitting, high-powered Slash 4X4 VXL short-course truck. The diffs are fully rebuildable and X-ring sealed so you can tune their action by changing the viscosity of the silicone diff oil used to fill them.

Oil-Filled Shocks
All 4-Tec shocks are fully tunable with a wide range of optional oils and springs. Pressure bladders separate air and oil for precise damping and smooth action and X-rings seals ensure lasting leak-free performance.

Titan® 550 12-Turn Motor & XL-5 Speed Control
The XL-5 speed control and Titan 550 motor is a proven combo that delivers high torque to blast 4-Tec off the line with authority, then keeps the power coming to push top speeds past 30 mph. The 3-mode XL-5 speed control arrives in Sport Mode for forward/brake/reverse operation. Race Mode locks out reverse for forward-only track action, and Training Mode to reduces speed and power by 50% so you can let new or inexperienced drivers take a spin with your 4-Tec.

Waterproof Electronics & High Torque Servo
Sliding a 4-Tec around a rain-slicked parking lot is a blast, and with Traxxas waterproof electronics, getting wet is nothing to worry about. Traxxas’ patented watertight receiver box keeps the receiver clean and dry in all conditions, and the XL-5 speed control and servo are waterproof. The #2075 servo aims the 4-Tec with 125 oz-in of torque for precise and responsive control at any speed.

Have it Your Way with a 4-Tec Ready-To-Race Chassis
If you’re thinking the 4-Tec 2.0 is the perfect choice to park under your favorite aftermarket body design, good news: you can get the 2.0 completely assembled and ready for action minus a body. There are two versions: 83024-4 4-Tec 2.0 with Titan 550 brushed power system and TQ radio system, and 83076-4 4-Tec 2.0 VXL with Velineon brushless power, Traxxas Stability Management, and the telemetry-ready TQi radio system.
Drifting With the 4-Tec 2.0
All the 4-Tec models are engineered for quick steering response and predictable handling, so they’re great candidates for drift-specific setups. Traxxas offers super-hard slick tires that dramatically reduce traction for epic drifts, and if you really want to get into drift mode, you can swap the rear differential’s housing and internals for a “spool” to eliminate diff action. You’ll also find a few bonus features built into the suspension that can help transform your 4-Tec into a full-on drifter.
All 4-Tecs have a position for a droop screw on each suspension arm. The screw contacts the chassis to limit down-travel (or “droop”). It’s an easy way to lower the car and precisely set suspension travel. The steering travel stops are set for normal road racing action. For drifting, you can nip the stops off and install the tie rods in the high-angle position to achieve extra-deep steering throw.
